Outward Bound Oman

Port of Salalah Management Training Course- 9 Oct 2011

In September and October 2011, Outward Bound Oman will be working closely with The Port of Salalah company ( http://www.salalahport.com ). Since it was set up in 1998, the vision behind the Port’s development has been to build a world-class container terminal and create a leading trans-shipment hub in the Middle East.

The speed at which the company has developed is extraordinary. The Government signed a contract with APM Terminals in December 1996 to build and operate the terminal, construction started in April 1997, and a world class container terminal with state-of-the-art equipment was ready for operation in November 1998 with 2 completed berths. Two further berths were delivered 3 months ahead of schedule in April 1999. In May 2007 the Port of Salalah opened berth 5, and berth 6 followed in May 2008. In the few years since its inception, the Port has developed into one of the world's largest container terminals.

In its 10-year history, the Port of Salalah has experienced consistent double-digit growth. The year after opening, it set the world record for productivity, with more than 250 moves per hour. Today, those high standards continue as the capacity, investment in technology and ability to innovate continues apace. After 10 years of record-breaking experience, the company is preparing for an exciting future.

In small groups of eighteen, Outward Bound Oman will work with more than one hundred of the company’s employees to help them achieve their goals and to continue their growth. Courses will last for three days and two nights, and take place on Jebel Samhan in Dhofar.
